Resolved Question: Dog in need of some help???
I work at a pound which also boards dogs. There has been a dog there named Maxine for about 2.5 months now. Her owner went for gastric bypass surgery and told us he wasn't sure when he would be returning. We have called and checked and it's only going to be a bit longer apparently. BUT I've noticed some major changes in Maxine. She is so stiff and slow and depressed now. As soon as I noticed this, I began taking her out more often and took her for little walks but it is difficult because we are under staffed at the moment and crazy busy with pound dogs and boarders. She also has a problem with peeing and pooping in her cement run in which she lives at the moment. Her fur got terribly matted all over from the urine. So I decided to give her the full spa treatment today when I had some extra time. I brushed out her matted hair and then I went to clean her ears and I noticed this thick white crusty stuff all inside them and there was just black and brown dirt all inside them as well. My co-worker thinks its a really bad yeast infection. Is there anything I can do for this?? I cleaned them out with some ear stuff and some q-tips but thats about all i could do. I don't want to clean too deep with the q-tips and the stuff is really crusted in there. Any suggestions?????? Home remedies?? Another problem I noticed was a rash on her lower belly. She doesn't have very much fur in that area and she has little red bumps all over it. I think it may have been caused by sleeping on the cement floor which she urinates on. Can I put polysporin on it? ANy other suggestions for that? I gave her a really good bath with special shampoo for her dry skin and she seems to be doing better. I'm not sure if I should bath her frequently until her rash is gone just to keep it clean? I just want to make the poor girl as comfortable as I possibly can until she gets out of there.
I can't just take a dog that is boarding at our kennel to the vet. If it was that simple I would have done it by now. Silly
Where I live, a pound is NOT required to have a vet and it is not punishable by law.
